Subject: Condemnation of Incendiary and Genocidal Statements by Raphael Nakachinda
As governance and human rights advocates, we are deeply disturbed by the alarming and incendiary remarks made by Raphael Nakachinda, as reported in the Diggers newspaper on August 23, 2024. Nakachinda’s assertion that President Hakainde Hichilema’s government has deliberately distributed toxic eagle mealie meal to harm Zambians and reduce the population is both baseless and profoundly dangerous.
These statements not only lack any factual foundation but also serve to incite hatred, violence, and division among the populace. Such rhetoric has the potential to undermine national unity, spark unrest, and endanger public safety.
We unequivocally condemn Nakachinda’s reckless and irresponsible behavior, which shows a complete disregard for human life and dignity. His remarks are a clear violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
In light of these serious concerns, we demand that Raphael Nakachinda:
- Immediately retract his genocidal statements and publicly correct the misinformation.
- Render an unconditional apology to President Hichilema, the Zambian people, and the nation at large.
Should Nakachinda fail to comply with these demands, we will advocate for his arrest and prosecution for promoting hate speech, incitement, and genocide. We cannot stand by while individuals like Nakachinda jeopardize national security and societal harmony.
We call on all Zambians to reject such divisive and harmful rhetoric and to instead foster peace, unity, and respect for human rights.
