PETAUKE CENTRAL BY-ELECTION SET FOR FEBRUARY 6, 2025

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has set 6th February 2025 as the date on which to hold the Parliamentary by-election for Petauke Central in Eastern Province.

The seat in question has been declared vacant following legal matters “former” Parliamentarian Emmanuel Jay Banda is faced with.

Mr Banda, who allegedly escaped from law enforcers through a hospital window, faces the charge of aggravated robbery, among others.

Government recently announced his apprehension in Zimbabwe, but information emerged later that Banda was actually a free man in that country.

Meanwhile, according to ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager Patricia Luhanga, two ward by-elections in Ntanda Ward of Mpongwe District in Copperbelt Province and Litawa Ward of Mongu District in Western Province will also be held on the same day.

She said the polls will take place from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on Thursday, 6th February, 2025.
