The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Electoral Committee has released its provisional list of candidates for the 2025 executive elections. Incumbent president Andrew Kamanga is set to retain his seat unopposed. Electoral Committee Chairperson Ronald Hatoongo made the announcement. It revealed high-stakes battles for key positions. There is a vice-presidential showdown between incumbent Justin Mumba and challenger Christopher Kasale.
In a press briefing, Hatoongo emphasized that unsuccessful candidates have a five-day appeal window (February 17–22, 2025). They can contest the committee’s decision in this period before the final list is published. The vetting process adhered strictly to FIFA Statutes. It also followed Article 33 of the FAZ Constitution. This mandates integrity checks, leadership experience, and valid nominations through the FAZ Connect system.
Key Highlights:
- Unopposed Leaders: Kamanga (President), Priscilla Katoba (National Women’s Rep), and five provincial chairpersons, including Lusaka’s Jordan Maliti.
- Battleground Provinces: Eastern Province (Chrispin Kamuna vs. Patrick Nyirenda) and Northwestern Province (Arthur Kamulosu vs. Brian Sakulenga).
- Integrity Checks: The Governance and Review Committee disqualified candidates who failed FIFA-aligned criteria. This includes 5-year leadership experience and valid FAZ Connect registrations.
Hatoongo urged rejected candidates to “utilize the appeal process transparently,” reaffirming FAZ’s commitment to fair elections. Northern Province saw no chairperson candidates, while the Zambian Premier League (ZPL) slot remains vacant.
