FORMER PF Chifunabuli Member of Parliament Ponde Mecha says former President Edgar Lungu should have humbled himself the moment he lost elections in 2021 to pave way for the honourable role of statesmanship.
Mecha stated that Lungu is supposed to be a figure of honour in the country in playing the role of presidential advisor to his successor President Hakainde Hichilema.
The former law maker is of the view that as a former Head of State, Lungu should be a model of peace, unity and reconciliation.
He said the role of a statesman gives Lungu a chance to foster unity, mentor future leaders, and leave a legacy of wisdom and reconciliation.
“It is for this reason that I appeal to former President Lungu to reconsider his position of staying in active politics and instead embrace the revered role of a statesman.”
“A statesman’s role transcends political affiliations and focuses on fostering unity, mentoring future leaders, and providing wise counsel for the benefit of the nation and this is what former President Edgar Lungu should have been,” stated Mecha.
He urged the former president to honour the Constitutional Court’s ruling and resist any temptation to contest it.
“Doing so will not only preserve his legacy but also set a powerful example of respect for the rule of law,” said Mecha.
“Development is a building block, and Zambia’s progress depends on our collective commitment to unity and democratic principles.”.
