Mundubile Blasts HH’s Leadership: Calls for a New Direction in Zambia’s 2026 Elections

By News Diggers

Mundubile Critiques HH’s Leadership, Predicts UPND’s Downfall in 2026.

In a scathing critique of President Hakainde Hichilema’s (HH) leadership, Brian Mundubile, Member of Parliament for Mporokoso and senior member of the Patriotic Front (PF), has accused the UPND government of failing to deliver on its promises, citing President Hichilema’s lack of experience in government leadership as a key factor in the country’s ongoing struggles with service delivery.

In an exclusive interview, Mundubile expressed concerns over Zambia’s current leadership under HH, arguing that the president’s inexperience in public governance has directly impacted the country’s ability to address key challenges. The PF MP emphasized that although HH may be working hard, the results have not been visible, which he claims has left the nation “guessing” about the UPND’s direction.

Lack of Vision, Poor Delivery

Mundubile claimed that one of the main issues plaguing the current government is a lack of clear policy direction. He pointed to the absence of anchor projects and a defined strategy as evidence that the UPND government has failed to meet expectations.

“The lack of direction we are facing now is on account of lack of capacity to deliver,” Mundubile explained. “Yes, President Hichilema is trying to work hard, but are the results visible? No. And we quickly have to find out why they are not showing.” According to Mundubile, the failure to implement key policies, particularly in sectors like education and infrastructure, has disillusioned many Zambians, leaving them with little faith in the current government’s ability to bring about meaningful change.

Preparation for a New Leadership

Looking ahead to the 2026 elections, Mundubile urged Zambians not to vote out of frustration due to the UPND’s failures. He stressed that citizens must take the time to carefully evaluate the leadership qualities of prospective candidates and avoid rushing into a decision based solely on discontent with the current government.

“Zambians must begin to prepare for a new leadership,” Mundubile said. “But even as they prepare for a new leadership, they should not vote out of frustration because of how the UPND has failed. They still have enough time for Zambians to begin to evaluate the leaders that will take over office.” He also warned of the dangers of voter apathy, urging the electorate to stay engaged in the political process despite the current disappointment with the UPND.

Learning from the UPND’s Failures

Mundubile outlined how the past three years of UPND governance have provided critical lessons for both political parties and the Zambian public. He acknowledged that the UPND had overpromised during their campaign but failed to deliver due to inadequate planning and a lack of realistic strategies.

“The three years of UPND in power have lessons,” Mundubile remarked. “Even as politicians, we know what not to do because of what the UPND have done. They overpromised without carrying out an assessment on how they can do certain things. So when it came to implementing it was a total failure.” He further emphasized that, moving forward, leaders must be cautious not to make promises they cannot fulfill, focusing instead on practical solutions and achievable goals.

The Role of Former President Edgar Lungu in Opposition Unity

In addition to his critique of the UPND, Mundubile called on the opposition to continue relying on the leadership of former President Edgar Lungu, whom he credited with providing guidance in the difficult political climate. Mundubile highlighted the successes of the PF, noting that despite being in opposition, the party had managed to secure a strong showing in recent elections, such as the one in Kawambwa.

“The Tonse alliance was barely a month old and yet performed very well in Kawambwa,” Mundubile said, praising Lungu’s leadership in keeping the opposition united. He stressed that the only way to dislodge the UPND in 2026 was through a united opposition, urging all political parties to rally behind Lungu’s vision for a more cohesive and strategic challenge to the ruling party.

“We want to continue relying on President Lungu’s leadership going forward to navigate and guide opposition political parties to come together to work and have concerted efforts so that in the 2026 elections, the number of candidates are reduced. That’s the only sure way that will dislodge the UPND government given the many failures that they’ve registered so far,” Mundubile concluded.

Calls for Stronger Qualifications for Future Presidents

Mundubile also voiced his concerns about the current qualifications required for presidential candidates, suggesting that more experience in governance should be required before someone is eligible to run for the highest office in the land. He argued that the experiences of the UPND government under Hichilema showed the risks of having an inexperienced president leading the country.

“It’s not enough to put conditions such as a grade 12 certificate,” he argued. “We are talking about the lives of the people that must be secured. Many other positions lower than president can have minimum qualifications. I think it’s within our power as a people to also demand that for one to be president they must possess certain experiences.”

Conclusion: Preparing for the Future

As Zambia approaches the 2026 elections, the political landscape is sure to see significant changes. With the current leadership under intense scrutiny and the opposition looking to unite under Edgar Lungu’s leadership, Zambians must reflect on the past three years and carefully evaluate who is best suited to lead the country into the future.
