Patriotic Front Vice President Given Lubinda speech at Dandy Krazy Funeral Service
At the emotional funeral of Zambian music legend Wesley Chibambo, famously known as Dandy Krazy, Patriotic Front (PF) Vice President, Hon. Given Lubinda, delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late musician, honoring his immense contributions to both the music industry and the Zambian people.
Addressing the congregation at Lusaka’s Showgrounds, Lubinda extended fraternal condolences from President Hakainde Hichilema, the government, and all members of the PF. He conveyed a deep sense of grief at the loss of the musician, who had been a recipient of the prestigious Grand Commander of Freedom Award in 2011 from the late President Michael Chilufya Sata. Dandy Krazy had earned the award for his instrumental role in promoting the PF, particularly through his anthem “Donchi Kubeba.”
“Dandy Krazy did not just sing for the Patriotic Front; he sang for all Zambians,” said Lubinda. “His music was a voice for the people, and his passing leaves a hole in our hearts.”
Lubinda recalled that even during his tragic accident, Dandy Krazy was on his way to perform and spread joy to the people of Zambia, further cementing his role as a true patriot. Lubinda acknowledged that Dandy’s music had touched millions, and his legacy would live on in the hearts of Zambians, both in life and beyond.
Lubinda’s speech also reflected on the tragic attack on Dandy Krazy at the Heroes Stadium, noting the resilience of the musician who remained steadfast in his commitment to Zambians. The PF Vice President acknowledged that, despite the unfortunate incident, even those who had celebrated his suffering now mourned his passing.
“My heart goes out to the widow, children, and family at this difficult time,” said Lubinda, urging the public to pray for the family’s strength and healing. He praised the solidarity of the music industry, commending fellow musicians for standing together in such a challenging time to honor one of their own.
Lubinda concluded his speech with a moving farewell to the late artist, stating, “We thank God for giving us Dandy Krazy. Now, we release him to join the heavenly singers. Go well, King Dandy Krazy. We shall remember ‘Donchi Kubeba’ and all that you gave us.”
Dandy Krazy, known for his timeless contributions to Zambian music, will be missed by fans and fellow musicians alike. His funeral service, attended by government officials and Zambian citizens, marked the end of an era for a man whose music transcended political boundaries and united the nation.
