The Road Development Agency (RDA) has raised concerns about the growing crowds obstructing the path of an abnormal load truck transporting a Cold Box Unit to Solwezi. According to Jeff Mwitumwa, the RDA’s Vehicle Load Management Supervisor, the curious onlookers are causing significant disruptions by crowding the road to take pictures or videos of the large vehicle. The Cold Box Unit, which is a massive 64 meters long, 5.7 meters wide, and 7.2 meters high, is one of the largest loads ever to be moved on Zambian roads.

Mwitumwa noted that the large number of people blocking the way was making it difficult for the truck to move smoothly and could lead to further delays. He praised the police for their role in managing the situation and ensuring that traffic was being controlled to minimize disruptions. The Cold Box Unit, which is expected to reach Solwezi within two weeks, is part of a special transport project, and its size makes it a spectacle for onlookers, though it also poses a challenge in terms of safe transportation.

The RDA’s concern highlights the need for public awareness about the importance of allowing large vehicles to pass without interference, especially as they transport oversized loads that require careful handling. The Cold Box Unit’s journey to Solwezi is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, assuming the crowds and traffic issues are kept under control.
