In a strong statement released for and on behalf of the Zambia Defence Force and Law Enforcement Agencies., Mr. Graphel C. Musamba, the Inspector General of Police, announced that the Zambia Defence Force and all law enforcement agencies have resolved to implement stricter measures to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
The announcement serves as a firm warning to individuals engaging in activities that threaten national safety and security. The Inspector General outlined key focus areas, emphasizing the identification and prosecution of those in possession of restricted items, including firstly Military Wear, Unauthorized individuals wearing military attire or items resembling such will face legal consequences. Secondly Firearms and Offensive Weapons, Possession of guns or other dangerous weapons, including machetes, with the intent to harm or threaten lives, will result in immediate arrest and prosecution.
The statement also addressed concerns about the manufacturing and sale of military regalia, urging the textile industry, traders, and the public to cease unlicensed activities in this regard. Anyone found participating in these activities, either as a seller or buyer, will be held accountable under the law.
Additionally, the public was warned against painting vehicles in camouflage patterns resembling Defence Force or law enforcement designs, a practice deemed misleading and potentially linked to criminal activities.
Citizens have been urged to remain vigilant and report any individuals suspected of engaging in these unlawful acts to the nearest police station.
“As security institutions, our paramount duty is to protect the people of Zambia and maintain public order. We appeal for your cooperation to ensure that our communities remain safe and secure,” stated Mr. Musamba.
The Zambia Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with the Defence Force and other law enforcement wings to uphold the rule of law and maintain public safety.
